Charleston's Islands
So close to Charleston yet miles from ordinary, the island communities of Kiawah, Seabrook and Isle of Palms encompass acres of breathtaking scenery filled to the brim with world class entertainment. Visitors come from far away to experience the unique attraction of these family friendly paradises. The lush semi-tropical foliage and warm climate are ideal for enjoying the outdoors. Horseback riding on the beach, award-winning Golf courses and epic fishing grounds are just a few of the rare features that the barrier islands offer their fortunate guests.
Isle of Palms, Wild Dunes and Sullivan’s Island – Historically Distinct
The prolific waters surrounding these island communities provide endless opportunities for entertainment and awe. The famous tanker Georgiana is wrecked in the same deepwater that angler’s have fished for centuries. Surfers and stand up paddle boardersalso dot the rolling waves as the lighthouse of Sullivan Island towers above like a sentinel. The rolling dunes topped with sea oats are also home to Wild Dunes in the northern corner of Isle of Palms. Spend a day exploring the area on a bike tour, play a round of golf and tennis or simply relax in the warm South Carolina sun and watch the waves roll in on the beach.
Seabrook – An Unspoiled Island Paradise
The lush maritime forests of Seabrook Island lend a secluded feel to the island. With a total of 7.1 square miles it enjoys some of the longest and widest beaches in all of South Carolina’s Low Country. Full service equestrian centers make dreams of horseback riding in the water’s edge a reality. Less than 30 minutes away from historic Charleston, locals lovingly refer to Seabrook as an ‘unspoiled island paradise’. Countless ways are available to take in the gorgeous scenery – world class tennis, nature trails, perfectly groomed Golf Courses and oceanfront balconies.
Kiawah – A Lush Playground
The largest and possibly most affluent of all the island communities, Kiawah rests 15 miles south of Charleston. Home to several celebrities, Kiawah is known for its upscale attractions and breathtaking views. Five award-winning golf courses with the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Pete Dye as designers blanket the island. Meandering through the lush forests of the interior all the way to the mesmerizing oceanfront, these PGA worthy greens call thousands of golf enthusiasts year after year. Moreover, Kiawah is a family friendly ‘playground’ with parks of all varieties – dog parks, water parks and nature parks for hiking and biking.
